What is Confirmation?
In the sacrament of Baptism we are born into a new life by which we become adopted children of the Father, members of Jesus Christ’s body (the Church) and temples of the Holy Spirit.
In the Sacrament of Confirmation (also known as Chrismation), our Baptism is completed, strengthened and deepened by a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit like that granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be bold missionaries and defenders of the faith through gifts of service to the degree that we are ready and willing to do so.
Confirmation roots us more deeply as children of God, unites us more firmly to Christ, strengthens our bond with the Church, links us more closely with her mission, and helps us to witness to the faith in words and actions.
Both Baptism and Confirmation imprint a permanent spiritual mark of belonging to Christ upon the recipient’s soul.
